Prevent India 2010 announces ‘Health Hearts Project’

A new cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention initiative, called the ‘Healthy Hearts Project’ (HHP) was revealed at the national Prevent India 2010 conference held in the city of Hyderabad. It is a programme designed by Medwin Heart Foundation in association with the Indian Institute of Public Health. Prevention is an important part of the HHP as Dr Ramesh Babu, Managing President of the Medwin Heart Foundation discussed when speaking at the conference: ‘we find education and prevention of CVD can go a long way in minimising the impact of the disease not only in the present but also in the future’. The preventative measures the project will promote will include knowledge of blood pressure and dietary salt reduction, the latter which is also being promoted in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Dr Ramesh Babu outlined the structure of the HHP, which will take the form of ‘a 5-year plan to make the residents of the Andhra Pradesh the most Heart Healthy and Stroke-free in India’. For more information about Prevent India 2010, visit the website: click here >>
