World Congress of Cardiology

Exchanging knowledge on a regional and global scale

The World Congress of Cardiology Scientific Sessions 2010 is taking place in Beijing, China, on 16-18 June. This year, the WCC Scientific Sessions 2010 are incorporating the 3rd International Conference on Women, Heart Disease and Stroke within the programme, a theme intended to be considered throughout. The event provides an arena for uniting a variety of health professionals to gather together to share the latest innovations in the field of treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease, with the aim of reversing the growing epidemic of cardiovascular conditions.

The sessions covered countries from all over the world. Symposium highlights included a debate about the role of the polypill for primary prevention for cardiovascular disease, and health charters to drive UN summit agenda. This involved a discussion about how advocacy around the United Nations summit on non-communicable diseases in 2011 should appear.  Heart-related organisations globally have developed three goals: to integrate NCDs into the successor goals of the current Millennium Development Goals (which will be redrafted in 2015), provide low- and middle-income countries with essential and affordable medications, and to integrate NCDs into primary healthcare without presenting them as competition to communicable diseases. This condensation of ideas into three main points should result in an outcome statement, which should be produced near to the time of the UN Summit.
