Men’s Health Week 2010

Encouraging men to get active and keep healthy

Men’s Health Week 2010 this year takes place during the early stages of the World Cup in South Africa. Kicking off on 14 June and running until 20 June 20, the central focus is on increasing physical activity levels to tie in the UK government’s hope to get 2 million more people active by 2012, the year London is set to host the Olympic Games. Physical activity can have a holistic impact on various aspects of well-being, from the mental to the physical. Being active can relieve stress, help and maintain weight loss and prevent a number of non-communicable and obesity-related diseases. Men’s Health Week aims to draw on the influential power and resources of professional sport to reach more men with new innovative health services and campaigns.

The week has three main aims:

1. To encourage men to increase their physical activity

2. To improve men’s participation in sports

3. To develop the potential of sports venues for the deliverance of health services and campaigns to men.
