Vas Hirani is public health and community engagement associate at C3 Collaborating for Health. She comes from a background of community development and regeneration where for over 20 years she has managed cross-sector and multi-disciplinary projects targeting social exclusion, deprivation, health and poverty. A psychologist by training, Vas thrives on behaviour change and holistic healthy living programmes including health trainers' initiatives, children’s centres and Sure Start, among others. Vas is a trustee of an arts charity in North London, working with young people (NEETS) and the creative industries. She actively supports community-wide initiatives that challenge inequality with sustainable interventions in the UK, India and Nepal.

Vas's role:

Vas works with C3's public health and community engagement projects. These include a CHESS programme in Halifax (England) and in Girvan (Scotland) and the delivery of a series of workshops looking at local third sector action to improve the chances of a healthy life for 14-24 year olds.

How Vas practises what she preaches:

Formative years involved training and competing internationally in Shaolin Ngor Chor Kung Fu. Over the last 28 years Vas has come to teach Aqua fitness, climbing, exercise to music, chair mobility, rugby and various water-based sports to diverse cohorts of adults and young people, of all abilities. Vas believes, through her teaching and learning, that physical activity can be fun and effective. Small steps are good, laughter while training is even better! There is indeed something for everyone, regardless of ability, background, age and resource.
